Rewired
Electrical · Des Moines, IA · Client for 3+ years

Seven agencies couldn’t make his ads work. We’re still here, and the company is still growing.

John Senn was Local Service Rocket’s first client. He’d already burned through multiple marketing companies with nothing to show from advertising. Today Rewired runs a much larger crew across Des Moines, and John still works with the same partner who got ads profitable when nobody else could.

WHERE THEY STARTED

A rough week, a long rant, and one more shot at ads.

John was LSR’s first client, reached through early Facebook prospecting when Alistair was still learning Google Ads from scratch. On that first call, John wasn’t shopping features. He was in the middle of a brutal stretch: an office betrayal and firing, running jobs himself, and years of paying marketers who never made advertising profitable. He talked for the better part of an hour before the real ask landed: want to give it a go?

The honest pitch was simple: low budget, maximum effort, no fake certainty. John had already tried something like five or six companies. One more experiment wasn’t optimism, it was necessity.

WHAT WE DID

Ads first. Then the full stack, with the patience to stay.

1
Make ads work on a scuffed setup
Blocked from changing the existing site, we still shipped a conversion-focused landing experience and got Google Ads producing on a small daily budget, after multiple agencies had failed.
2
Survive the “hire the big agency” detours
Twice, larger agencies took over with flashy rebuilds. Organic and paid both tanked. Each time John came back, and we rebuilt lead flow without the showmanship.
3
Own the website, SEO, ads, and hiring
Eventually Rewired stopped shopping agencies. We improved the site for conversion (not just looks), kept ads performing, and ran Facebook hiring campaigns for helpers, apprentices, and salespeople.

What almost ended the relationship (and what saved it)

The hard parts weren’t only campaigns. They were the moments bigger agencies promised a cleaner website and “best in class” systems, then killed the organic channel that was paying the bills and couldn’t restart paid. One rebuild soaked tens of thousands of dollars and months of weaker lead flow before John pulled ads back.

What kept the partnership alive was a simple rule: if someone else can do it better, they should. Alistair offered to step aside, stay on as a light consultant for context, and return only if the new team couldn’t deliver. They couldn’t. That humility, plus actually making ads print money, is why Rewired stopped cycling agencies and kept one partner for the long haul.

Along the way the work also meant owner support when stress and paranoia ran high in year one. Clear expectations are easier now. Back then it was problem-solving under pressure until both sides got stronger.

★★★★★

“My company went through upwards of a dozen other marketing companies prior to landing here, and I can say it's nice to be home where you're treated like family.”
